Tips to prevent tooth decay or caries during Braces Treatment!!!



              We understand that its really difficult to make the teeth clean with all those wire stuff(braces) in your mouth.  It is essential that you put some extra attention into preventing tooth decay while wearing your braces.When your braces are finally removed you want a beautiful smile with no decay or stained teeth
So here is few tips to have your teeth and braces clean so that you will get a beautiful smile at the end or completion of the treatment.

To prevent the above condition  after removal of braces here is few tips:

1. Brush your teeth:

In the fight against cavities, it is essential that you brush your teeth properly especially twice daily and also using interdental toothbrushes.

2.Floss Daily

Food debris gets caught inbetween our teeth when we eat. If the debris is not removed , it can lead to cavities. Flossing everyday is the best way to remove food debris from inbetween the teeth and preventing decay.

3.Healthy Food:

Proper nutrition plays an important role in good dental health. Eating nutritional food and limiting the amount of sugary and junk foods., which also helps to prevent caries or the white spot lesion. 


4. Regular Dental Visit:

Many Cavities Can only detected by a dentist either clinically or with X-Ray.
Visiting your dentist for regular check ups and cleanings or scaling  are a key factor in preventing cavities and staying on top of good oral hygiene.

5.Use a Mouthwash

There are several orthodontic mouth rinses on the market that have been clinically proven specially for braces individual., which prevent white spot lesion leading to caries by providing a greater fluoride uptake and deeper fluoride penetration.

DO I REQUIRE BRACES?

ATTENTION TO MOUTH BREATHERS... IS YOUR CHILD A MOUTH BREATHER..

Mouth Breathing and Malocclusion:

Mouth breathing is the immediate culprit in the development of malocclusion. 
                             
                         
                        
During development, the body is seeking the appropriate balance between the sphincter action of the buccinator muscles, which flatten our cheeks and push our jaws inward, and the outward pushing of our tongue, the strongest muscle in the human body. 

When children breathe through their mouths, their tongue is often placed out of position for supporting its side of the conflict. This leads to a constriction of the arch of the child's jaw.

In addition, the tongue can rest over where the back teeth are supposed to erupt, hampering the process and forcing the body to move the jaw back in order to properly get the rear teeth together, leading to a general overbite tendency in the population.

Furthermore, the development fostered by this process leads to mouth-breathing for the rest of that child's life in two ways. First, the tongue that now has insufficient room in the arch of the jaw is forced backward into the throat, leading to more constriction of the airway that is rectified with mouth-breathing. Second, the constriction of the arch of the jaw also leads to a high palate that constructs the turbinate space in the airways. This means that any swelling in the sinuses can restrict or block the airway, again forcing mouth breathing.
As bad as the condition sounds, we want you to know mouth breathing is a treatable condition. Doing so, though, requires early diagnosis and treatment.

WHAT CAUSES ORTHODONTIC PROBLEMS OR MALOCCLUSION...?

                                       

Most malocclusions are inherited, but some are acquired. Inherited problems include crowding of teeth, too much space between teeth, extra or missing teeth, and a wide variety of other irregularities of the jaws, teeth and face.

Acquired malocclusions can be caused by trauma (accidents), thumb, finger or dummy (pacifier) sucking, airway obstruction by tonsils and adenoids, dental disease or premature loss of primary (milk teeth) or permanent teeth.

 Whether inherited or acquired, many of these problems affect not only alignment of the teeth but also facial development and appearance as well.

Hence orthodontic treatment has to be commenced at the early stage itself...

HOW TO MAINTAIN ORAL HYGIENE WITH BRACES????

Braces are corrective devices that aid in improving teeth, which are overlapping, crooked, crossbite,  twisted, and spacing. To make it even simpler, braces help in properly aligning malaligned teeth.


                               


STEPS IN MAINTAINING TEETH WITH ORTHODONTIC BRACES:

1.BRUSHING:
                                           


  • Allot extra time for brushing.
  • Brush twice daily.
  • On the outer surface of teeth, use orthodontic tooth brush and give gentle circular vibrating motion.
  • Clean the area between the gums and braces by angling the brush down (up for the upper jaw). Keep moving in a small, circular motion.
  • Use rotatory motion on the chewing surfaces of both upper and lower teeth.
  • On the inner surface, use regular tooth brush.


2. INTER DENTAL BRUSHING:


  • Make sure that your brush bristles also get under the wire, but just do it gently.
  • Position of the interdental brush for upper teeth should face downward and for lower teeth, the brush facing upward.

3. RINSING:
  • After every meal and snack, its very essential to gargle the mouth thoroughly with water.
  • Use mouthwash regularly twice daily specially before bed.

  Gently use the tooth brush inorder to avoid damage to your braces and gums.
